Based on a true story.
The year is 1922 and Tokei Maru, a Japanese cargo boat arrives at Smyrna at the coast of Asia Minor.
As the ship enters Smyrna Bay, the city changes hands while the Greek army flees and Turks enter in triumph.
As the city is burned to the ground, the Japanese captain throws all of his precious cargo to the sea to rescue more than 800 man, women and children, Greeks and Armenians.
"This ship and all onboard and around it belong to His Royal Highness the Emperor of Japan. If you make any atempt to harm them you are offending our honor and our Emperor. And I will be forced to retaliate."
Almost 100 years later his name is still unknown but his act of humanity remains.
Tokei Maru and its crew watch as history is made. A fire spreads across the city burnin on its path everything to the ground.
Dantes Infermo
